Methodology
Concentration by Cytocentrifugation and Stained to Identify Eosinophils
Specimen Requirements
Specimen Type: Urine, random
Container/Tube: Plastic urine container
Specimen Volume: 12 mL
Collection Instructions:
1. Collect a random urine specimen.
2. No preservative.
Additional Information:
1. If there is a delay in transport of >1 hour, prepare specimen as follows:
a. Centrifuge 12 mL of urine.
b. Decant all but 1 mL of urine and sediment.
c. Add 2 drops of albumin to sediment and gently resuspend.
d. Place urine sediment/albumin in a labeled aliquot tube indicating albumin added and forward promptly to the performing laboratory.
2. Urine sediment/albumin mixture is stable for 24 hours refrigerated.
