Specimen Requirements

 

Specimen Type: Plasma

Container/Tube: Grey top (potassium oxalate/sodium fluoride); Green top for GEM Instrument

Specimen Volume: 1 mL

Specimen Minimum Volume: 0.5 mL

Collection Information:

1. Draw without a tourniquet. if tourniquet is needed remove immediately after blood flow  has started and continue with the collection following the order of draw

2. Return to lab within 30 minutes of collection, if collected at main lab.

3. If drawn at a site, spin down, and separate plasma from cells immediately

4. Hemolyzed specimen is not acceptable.
