Useful For/Utility
Includes color, clarity, specific gravity, pH, glucose, ketones, protein, blood, nitrites, leukocyte esterase. Blood is not reported.
Methodology
Clinitek or IRIS
Includes color, clarity, specific gravity, pH, glucose, ketones, protein, blood, nitrites, leukocyte esterase and a microscopic examination or culture when indicated (at an additional charge).
Reflex Information:
Blood is not reported, however, if blood dipstick is positive a microscopic examination to look for red blood cells is performed.
If positive for leukocyte esterase or nitrites, or if protein is ≥30 mg/dL a microscopic examination is performed.
If WBCs >10/hpf (high power field) on microscopic exam and/or nitrites are positive, a culture is performed.
Test Algorithm

Clinical Information
Test results may provide information regarding the status of carbohydrate metabolism, kidney and liver function, acid-base balance, and urinary tract infection. The strips also measure physical characteristics including urine concentration.
