Specimen Requirements
Specimen source is required.
Submit only 1 of the following specimens:
Preferred:
Specimen Type: Body fluid-Synovial fluid is preferred.
Container/Tube: Green top (sodium heparin) or red top
Specimen Volume: 1 mL
Specimen Minimum Volume: 1 drop
Collection Instructions: Lithium heparin tube is not acceptable as false positive results may occur.
Alternate:
Specimen Type: Body fluid-Synovial fluid is preferred.
Container/Tube: Lavender top (EDTA)
Specimen Volume: 1 mL
Specimen Minimum Volume: 1 drop
Specimen Transport Temperature
Refrigerate 48 hours of specimen collection. For synovial fluids, that can be extended to 72 hours if refrigerated.
Ambient and frozen are OK
