Lactic Acid to Pyruvate

Specimen Requirements

Specimen should be drawn without using a tourniquet. Whole blood specimens must arrive at the testing laboratory within 30 minutes of collection.

 

 

Specimen Type: Whole blood, arterial

Specimen must be tested within 30 minutes of draw time.

 

Container/Tube:  Lithium heparin, blood gas syringe or a dark-green top (lithium heparin)

Specimen Volume: 1 mL

Specimen Minimum Volume: 0.5 mL

Collection Instructions:

1. For syringe, remove needle, express air bubbles, and cap with rubber stopper.

2. Do not centrifuge.
