Methodology
Specimen is concentrated by cytocentrifugation and stained to evaluate for the presence of iron within the macrophages. This stain can be useful in the evaluation of pulmonary hemorrhage and may highlight ferruginous bodies (ferroprotein-coated fibers) associated with asbestos exposure.
