Clinical Information

Helicobacter pylori has been firmly established as an etiologic agent in chronic gastritis and peptic ulcer disease, and has been associated with mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue lymphoma and gastric.

Specimen Requirements

Specimen Type: Stool

Container/Tube: Plastic container

Specimen Volume: 5 g

Additional Information:

1. Watery stools composed mainly of fluid with little or no solid matter may give false negative test results.

2. Stool in transport media or preservatives,  or swab is not acceptable.

3. Antimicrobials, proton pump inhibitors, bismuth preparations and H2Blockers (Pepcid) are known to suppress H. pylori, and ingestion of these within 2 weeks prior to testing may cause false-negative results.
