Methodology

Platelet Adhesion and Aggregation are Stimulated In Vitro and Quantified as Closure Time

Note: PFA tubes cannot be sent by courier, patient will need to present at Duluth or Fargo hospitals to be drawn.

Specimen Requirements

Specimens must be analyzed within 4 hours of draw. Do not send specimen through Pneumatic Tube System.

 

EDTA and sodium citrate whole blood are required.

 

Specimen Type: EDTA whole blood

Container/Tube: Lavender top (EDTA) tube

Specimen Volume: 1 mL

Specimen Minimum Volume: 0.5 mL

Collection Instructions: Blood should be drawn using a 21-gauge or larger needle. Butterfly needles are not acceptable. Do not centrifuge.

 

Specimen Type: Sodium citrate whole blood

Container/Tube: Light-blue top (buffered sodium citrate [9:1]) tubes

Specimen Volume: 2 full tubes

Specimen Minimum Volume: 2.7 mL

Collection Instructions:

1. Blood should be drawn using a 21-gauge or larger needle. Butterfly needles are not acceptable.
2. Sodium citrate tube must be completely filled; blood to anticoagulant ratio is critical.

3. Do not centrifuge.
