• ABO Incompatibility between mother and baby
• Mother is known to have a clinically significant antibody
Methodology
Tube Testing
Test Algorithm
Rh negative infants will have a Weak D test performed. If the Weak D is positive, a DAT will also be performed.
If the mother is known to have a clinicially significant antibody and the physician orders cord testing, the baby will be tested for ABO/Rh and DAT. The corresponding antigen type will also be done.
Clinical Information
The ABO system is regarded as the most important blood-group system in transfusion medicine because of severe hemolytic transfusion reactions and, to a lesser degree, hemolytic disease of the newborn.
The Rh blood group system is the secondmost important blood group system, after the ABO blood group system.
