Useful For/Utility

Cryoprecipitate transfusions are indicated:
1. Fibrinogen <150 mg/dl with active bleeding, prolonged cardiopulmonary bypass or ECMO, or patient is pre-procedure
2. Hemophilia A or other documented Factor VIII deficiency, if specific factor concentrate is not available.
3. vonWillibrand disease with documented Factor VIII deficiency, if specific factor concentrate is not available.
4. Uremic bleeding with evidence of platelet dysfunction

Test Algorithm

An ABO/Rh must be completed within six months of the planned transfusion.

Clinical Information

Cryoprecipitate is a plasma derivative that is relatively enriched for fibrinogen, Factor VIII, vWF, fibronectin, and Factor XIII.

Specimen Requirements

Call Transfusion Services to request this test. Allow 30 minutes for thawing and pooling. 

 

Additional Information:

1. Blood type and Rh are required before preparation.

2. Product expires 4 hours after thawing.
