Methodology

Whole Blood Aggregation via Blockade of P2Y12 Receptors.

Note: Specimen tubes cannot be sent by courier, patient will need to come to the performing Laboratory to be drawn.

Specimen Requirements

Specimens must be analyzed within 4 hours of draw. Do not send specimen through Pneumatic Tube System.

 

A plain, red-top or white-top tube (for waste purposes), EDTA and 2 Greiner sodium citrate whole blood tubes are required. Kits are provided by the laboratory.

 

Blood must be drawn in the following sequence using a 21-gauge or larger needle.

 

Specimen Type: Whole blood

Container/Tube: Plain, red-top tube or plain white-top tube

Specimen Volume: 2 mL

Collection Instructions: Discard tube after draw.

 

Specimen Type: Sodium citrate whole blood

Container/Tube: 2 Greiner (3.2% sodium citrate) tubes

Specimen Volume: 2 mL (to black arrow) in each tube

Collection Instructions: Mix gently and hand carry the specimens to the laboratory STAT. Do not centrifuge.

 

Specimen Type: EDTA whole blood

Container/Tube: Lavender-top tube

Specimen Volume: 2 mL

Collection Instructions: Mix gently and hand carry the specimens to the laboratory STAT. Do not centrifuge.
