Methodology
Immunochromatography. This is used to aid in detecting a rupture of the fetal membrane in pregnant women.
Specimen Requirements
Specimen Type: Vaginal swab
Container/Tube: AmniSure Kit
Specimen Volume: Swab
Collection Instructions:
1. Collect vaginal specimen with Dacron swab included in the AmniSure Kit.
a. Label the vial containing the liquid AmniSure solvent with the patient's name, MRN, collection date and time.
b. Shake the vial well to ensure that all liquid in the vial has dropped to the bottom. Open the vial.
c. Insert the Dacron swab into the vagina no more than 2-3 inches deep.
d. Wait for 1 minute and then remove swab from vagina.
e. Place the swab into the vial and rinse the swab in the solvent by rotating for 1 minute.
f. Remove the swab and dispose.
g. Replace the cap securely on the vial.
h. Place the vial into a biohazard bag and send immediately to the laboratory.
2. Specimens should be collected prior to digital examinations or lubricants.
3. Specimens should be collected prior to the use of any disinfectant solutions or medicines, or 6 hours after their removal.
