TEG Global Hemostasis with Heparin Neutralization Assay LABTEGGHHN TEG HPN

Methodology

TEG 6s Hemostasis analyzer using the TEG Citrated Multichannel Cartridge.

The system provides semi-quantitative indications of the hemostatic state of a whole blood sample.

Clinical Information

This assay cartridge is intended to be used in patients where heparin/heparinoids may be present and who are at an increased risk of coagulopathy. Hemostasis evaluations are indicated to assess clinical conditions in cardiovascular surgery, cardiovascular procedures (e.g., minimally invasive valve replacement or repairs) and liver transplantation to assess hemorrhage or thrombosis conditions before, during and following the procedure.

Results obtained with the TEG 6s Hemostasis System are intended to aid the clinician in the assessment of a patient’s hemostatic status and should be interpreted in conjunction with the patient’s clinical condition, other laboratory findings, and standard clinical practice.

Specimen Requirements

A plain, red-top or plain white top  (for waste purposes) and 3.2% Sodium Citrate tube

Blood must be drawn in the following sequence using a 21-gauge needle. Under no circumstances should a smaller gauge needle be used. The use of a butterfly needle with tubing is specifically recommended if available, as it puts less pressure on the vein.

Specimen Type: Whole blood

Container/Tube: Plain, red-top tube

Specimen Type: Sodium citrate whole blood

Container/Tube: 3.2% sodium citrate tube

All blood tubes must be filled completely (until vacuum is exhausted). A short draw is not an acceptable sample.

Collection Instructions: Mix gently and deliver STAT. Do not centrifuge. Tubes must be full.   Mix gently but thoroughly.

Specimens must be analyzed within 2 hours of draw.
