Qualitative Liquid Chromatography-Tandem Mass Spectrometry
Specimen Requirements
Specimen Type: Umbilical Cord
Container/Tube: Plastic Container (Preservative-free)
Specimen Volume: ≥ 6 inches in length (approximately the size of a human hand)
Specimen Minimum Value: 6 inches
Collection Instructions: Drain and discard any blood. Rinse the exterior of the specimen submitted with normal saline or sterile water. Pat the cord dry and place in labeled container for transport to the main laboratory.
Additional Information: Cords that are soaking in blood or other fluid, formalin fixed, or that is obviously decomposed are unacceptable.
